Introduction:
Power Line Communication (PLC) is a communication technology that enables sending data over existing power cables. This means that, with just power cables running to an electronic device (for example) one can both power it up and at the same time control/retrieve data from it in a half-duplex manner.
PLC is a technology which has been in use since years but came now in more demand after the launch of new communication technologies which are being supported by PLC i.e. PLC would be a reliable communication medium for applications like Internet-of-things (IoT) and Smart Grids.
Overview:
PLC is like any other communication technology whereby a sender modulates the data to be sent, injects it onto medium, and the receiver de-modulates the data to read it. The major difference is that PLC does not need extra cabling, it re-uses existing wiring. Considering the pervasiveness of power lines, this means with PLC, virtually all line- powered devices can be controlled or monitored!
How Power Line Communication Works
The PLC Market is expanding dynamically. Advanced energy services include applications such as automatic meter reading, programmable controllers and demand supply management. There are several applications of PLC networking in homes: shared internet, printers, files, home control, games, distributed video and remote monitoring/ security.
Various standards have been developed in order to ensure reliable communications and inter-operability, especially for the smart grid and home networking.
Advantages of Power Line Communication
Simplicity: Most Private homes do not have dedicated high speed network cabling installed. The labor costs required to install such wiring is often quite high. Power Line Communication uses existing electrical network for communication. So the communication service can be provided where ever the power outlets exist.
Flexibility: PLC is suitable for high, medium and low voltage supply. It can be used in internal electrical installation within buildings for various communication applications. If multiple power outlets are available in every room, the home power supply infrastructure presents an excellent network for sharing data among intelligent devices.
Plug and Play: Just Plug KT EN01 500M in wall power socket and provide ethernet cable as input from router, other side plug KT EN21 in any desired power outlet. Then everything is done and just enjoy high speed network over wire and wireless medium.
